토크쇼 인기는 늘 식을 줄 모르죠. 제이레노가 경쟁시간대에서 빠진 틈을 타서 최근에 가장 인기있는 밤시간대 토그쇼 시청률을 데이비드 레터맨이 드디어 차지하게 되었었는데요, 딱 그 때를 맞춰 자신의 쇼에서 어느날 폭탄 발언을 했죠.

가정이 있는 자기가 그동안 자기 쇼의 여자스탭과 부적절한 관계가 있었고, 그것을 알고 있던 사람(CBS News producer Halderman )으로부터 돈을 달라는 협박에 시달렸다는거죠.

데이빗 레터맨이 선택한 것은 대중에게 확 말해버려서 더이상 비밀이 아니게 해버리는것. 물론 비난과 동정이 쏟아졌지만 쇼는 계속 진행하는것을 보내 그 당사자한테는 공개가 득이 된 셈이군요.

Robert Halderman, the man accused of trying to extort $2 million from David Letterman last fall, pled guilty to one count of grand larceny in the second degree in a Manhattan court Tuesday afternoon. CBS News producer Halderman threatened to reveal the talk show host's extramarital affairs with female staffers; he left a packet of incriminating emails and photos in Letterman's limo with a note demanding $2 million to keep them under wraps.
